SWP allows you to generate a steady, predictable monthly income from your mutual fund investments, perfect for retirees or secondary income.

🛡️ ### Tax Efficiency

Unlike Fixed Deposits where entire interest is taxed as per your slab, SWP withdrawals are treated as capital gains, making them highly tax-efficient.

📈 ### Continued Growth

While you withdraw a fixed amount, your remaining corpus stays invested in the market, continuing to compound and potentially beat inflation.

❓ Top 10 SWP (Systematic Withdrawal Plan) FAQs
------------------------------------------------

Everything you need to know about generating regular income from mutual funds.

 1. What exactly is a Systematic Withdrawal Plan (SWP)? An SWP is a facility offered by mutual funds that allows you to withdraw a specific amount of money from your investment at regular intervals (monthly, quarterly, etc.). It helps create a customized, steady income stream while the remaining balance stays invested and continues to grow. 2. How is SWP different from SIP? They are exact opposites. SIP (Systematic Investment Plan) is a method of putting money \*into\* a mutual fund regularly to build wealth over time. SWP (Systematic Withdrawal Plan) is a method of taking money \*out\* of a mutual fund regularly to generate income from already accumulated wealth. 3. Is SWP better than earning monthly interest from an FD? In many cases, yes. Fixed Deposit (FD) interest is fully taxable as per your income slab, which reduces your actual in-hand return. SWP withdrawals consist of both principal and capital gains. Only the capital gains portion is taxed, making SWPs significantly more tax-efficient. Additionally, mutual funds generally offer higher inflation-beating return potential than FDs. 4. How are SWP withdrawals taxed? Tax is levied only on the \*capital gains\* portion of your withdrawal, not the principal. For Equity Mutual Funds (held > 1 year), Long-Term Capital Gains (LTCG) over ₹1.25 Lakh per financial year are taxed at 12.5%. For Debt Funds, gains are added to your income and taxed as per your slab rate, regardless of the holding period. 5. What happens if I withdraw more than my fund earns? If your withdrawal rate exceeds the return rate of the fund, you will start eating into your principal invested amount. Over time, this will deplete your corpus entirely. Our calculator will show a red warning if your withdrawal amount is too high, showing exactly when your funds will run out. 6. What is considered a "Safe Withdrawal Rate"? A standard rule of thumb in India is to keep your withdrawal rate between 4% to 6% of your total corpus per year. For example, on a corpus of ₹1 Crore, a safe withdrawal is around ₹40,000 to ₹50,000 per month. This allows the remaining corpus to grow enough to beat inflation and sustain you for decades. 7. Which mutual funds are best suited for SWPs? Because SWPs require capital preservation and steady returns, Aggressive Hybrid Funds, Balanced Advantage Funds (BAFs), or Conservative Hybrid Funds are highly recommended. They provide a good mix of equity (for growth) and debt (for stability), minimizing extreme volatility during withdrawals. 8. Can I change or stop my SWP amount later? Yes, absolutely. SWPs are completely flexible. You can pause, stop, or change the monthly withdrawal amount at any time without any penalties. You remain in full control of your money. 9. Does SWP guarantee a fixed income? While you will receive the exact fixed amount you set in your bank account every month, the underlying mutual fund returns are linked to the market and are not guaranteed. If the market performs poorly for a long period, your corpus will deplete faster than expected. 10.
